I graduated from Queen’s University Belfast with an BSc Hons in Food Quality, Safety & Nutrition. My course focused around all aspects of food manufacture, processing and packaging, and the science and safety behind it.
After graduation I spent a bit of time working in the egg processing industry and the health food sector, before joining IDL on the Jameson Graduate Programme in 2015, where I was based at our bottling & logistics site, Fox & Geese, in Dublin.
During the programme, I had the opportunity to spend time working within many different areas of bottling operations. This included spending time in Continuous Improvement, in which I was involved in the design and roll out of lean manufacturing practices across the site. I also completed my Green Belt Certificate in Process Engineering which further equipped me with the tools to design and lead continuous improvement projects within bottling ops. I then spent a significant period of time as a Bottling Line Supervisor in which I was responsible for running mainly our biggest volume bottling line with my own team of 6 crew members. In this role I was responsible for line output & efficiency, order changeovers & process improvements whilst working within a very dynamic team in a rapidly changing & fast paced environment. Within this role I also had the opportunity to take part in an exchange programme with another of our Pernod Ricard affiliates; Absolut Vodka, which allowed me to spend 5 days working with Absolut in their production facility in Sweden before bringing back any learnings to help drive improvements within our own operations in Fox & Geese.
I ended my time on the graduate programme in 2017 having moved into the Quality Assurance department, which has allowed me to grow my knowledge from a whole other aspect of bottling operations. Still also acting as a step-up supervisor to run bottling lines in production when needed, no two days are ever the same and I enjoy every minute of it. My time on the graduate programme was a whirlwind but brilliant two years - and I know it equipped me in an invaluable way to now develop my skillset and career within Irish Distillers for the future.
